19th Century Iron Door Porter with Stuart Clan Crest
A very striking 19th Century cast iron door stop in the form of a winged griffin on a shaped rectangular base. This mythical beast is very well cast and supports a brass mask head shield bearing the crest of the Stuart clan/Marquis of Bute. The condition is good, (please see photographs for detailed views) and this antique door porter is very heavy, necessary to fulfill door holding duties. An unusual, decorative and useful item with very interesting Scottish connections.
