19th Century Chinese Ridge Tile

A rare glazed antique terracotta Chinese ridge tile with a sage riding a rooster and a grotesque image to the front. In Chinese mythology the rooster signifies honesty, fortune and luck. Only temples and important buildings were allowed to be decorated with tiles of this type, this is a particularly fine example with high quality moulding and a rich ochre coloured glaze. This antique Chinese tile is in excellent condition. A really superb illustration of oriental architecture to add to a collection or place as an unusual and eye catching decorative object in the home.
