19th Century Coromandel Card Table by Gregory & Co

An outstanding 19th Century coromandel card table by Gregory & Co. This antique fold over card table bears the makers stamp of Gregory & Co and the design number 384. Gregory & Co were renowned furniture makers and interior decorators established in Regent Street, London in 1861. This table is a wonderful example of their craftsmanship having an ebonised frieze with a delicate gilded decoration which is repeated on the finely turned ebonised legs which terminate with the original brass castors.  With the back legs extended (with a simple pull out action), the exquisite coromandel top lifts to reveal the original embossed green playing surface. There is space under the top to store cards and gaming equipment. This fabulous card table is a wonderful example of the craftsmanship of the flourishing Aesthetic Movement during the latter part of the 19th Century. The table is in very good condition and stands securely with no wobbles, the inside drawer has two very minor cracks but these are not detrimental and can't be seen. The baize playing surface is original and though faded, is still in great condition and adds to the character and history of this important piece of furniture. This can be seen from the photographs.  Whether used as a games table or as a decorative side table, this is an outstanding antique table to add impact wherever it is placed in the home.
