19th Century Japanned & Chinoiserie Painted Games Table
A spectacular 19th Century Japanned games table with frieze drawer and side flaps beautifully painted with exotic birds and blossoms in Chinoiserie style, surrounded by a border of fine mother of pearl inlay and gilt leaves. The elegantly curved legs and scroll feet are beautifully decorated with gilt leaves, weeping trees and blossoms. The table retains the original tiny brass castors. The chequered inlaid games board is in very good condition, there is evidence of historic repairs to the legs and damage to one of the scroll feet, there is some wear to the gilded decoration to the back frieze of the table, this is shown in the photographs. This is a very distinctive and unusual country house games table that incorporates the very best elements of Victorian design and was obviously made to a very high specification. An outstanding antique for today, either to use or make a decorative statement.
