19th Century Mahogany Gilt Metal Mounted Coal Box

An impressive 19th Century mahogany coal box and shovel with reeded scroll handle and metal lining standing on gilt paw winged feet. The bowed cover is mounted with a gilt mythological winged creature which encloses a swing handle in its mouth. These classical winged creatures, together with acanthus leaves, decorate the sides of this superb antique coal box. The condition is good, as this 19th Century coal box is in untouched condition, there are a few minor scratches, indicating its use over many years. As can be seen from the photographs, these do not detract from the appearance of this superb high quality box. This distinctive Regency style coal scuttle would be an important and practical addition to any fireside.
