A 19th Century Ashford Marble Pietra Dura Obelisk

A fabulous Ashford black marble pietra dura specimen obelisk inlaid with a wide variety of hard stones including lapis lazuli, agate and malachite.   This imposing obelisk stands on a stepped square plinth.   The condition is  good with very minor nibbles.

Obelisks such as this example, were very popular in the 19th century and followed the form of the tapering columns in ancient civilizations seen on the grand tour.

A very elegant object to be a focal point wherever it is displayed.
