Early Victorian Papier Mache Envelope Box
A very charming 19th Century English papier mache envelope or card box, beautifully decorated with gilt scrolls, flowers and exotic birds. The gently curved lid opens to reveal graduated interior compartments with the original purple lining. The lock does not work and the key is included for decorative purposes. The condition of this antique Victorian box is reasonably good, there is some wear to the inside lid, this is not detrimental as can be seen in the photographs. The exterior painting is lovely and the condition good and as can be expected of an item over 170 years old. A really pretty Victorian box to use or display.
