Giant Clam Shell (Tridacna Gigas)

An enormous giant clam shell with deep bowl and well shaped teeth. The colour of the interior is a pearly cream and the exterior has interesting flecks of purple and beautiful pink crustaceans. Giant clams inhabit the Pacific and Indian oceans and have an average lifespan of over one hundred years. The layering of the shell is built up over many years and it is difficult to date precisely. This antique clam shell, tridacna gigas, is from a private collection, it is in reasonably good condition, there is slight damage to the edge of two teeth, but this does not detract from the decorative appeal of this fabulous shell. A really wonderful decorative object to make an impact in any design scheme.
