Giant Clam Shell - (Tridacna Gigas)
A very decorative giant clam shell with a well defined shape and good colour. Giant clams, (tridacna gigas) inhabit the oceans of the Pacific and Indian Oceans and have a lifespan of over 100 years. The layers, built up over the course of many years, make the shells very heavy and can be difficult to date precisely. This antique clam shell, from a private collection, is in good condition. There are two minor chips to the edge, these do not detract from the decorative qualities of the shell as can be seen in the photographs. The inside of the clam shell is lovely and smooth and has a good white colour. An interesting, unusual and very decorative object, this fabulous giant clam shell would enhance any design scheme.
