Regency Japanned & Painted Games Table
A superb japanned Regency games table raised on lyre supports and standing on a shaped canted corner base terminating with ball feet and original brass castors including a fifth castor under the base. The top of this Regency table is painted with blossoms, vines and oppulent foliage, the frieze is painted in the same style with traditional Chinese scenes within a cartouche on the corners. The folding top opens to reveal a dazzling interior featuring a chess board set within oriental and floral borders. The decoration continues on the lyre supports and base, an indication of a high quality piece commissioned to a high standard. The table is in good condition, there are areas of minor wear and slight wear to the top, as can be expected of an early 19th Century table that has been in use for over 200 years. This is not detrimental and does not appeal from the appeal of the table. The stability of the table is good and the table stands well. This rare and beautiful antique games table is an example of the style and elegance of the Regency period and would be a striking and important addition to any interior.
